Austria's new Chancellor is Papal Knight

TeTERR LUDWIG RAAB, 62

year-old architect who has succeeded Dr. Leopold Figl as Chancellor of Austria, was recently created a Knight Commander of St. Gregory the Great by the Holy Father.

His appointment and the formation of a new Coalition Government end a six-week political stalemate resulting from the general election.

Herr Raab is chairman of the Catholic-oriented People's Party, which has been joined in the Government by the Austrian Socialist Party. He represents the business wing of his people. Dr. Figl was regarded as the spokesman of the farming section.
