THE DRAMA

SIR,—Is not Margaret Yeo merely adding to the spate of words by her letter in your last issue? I appear to be defeatist? On the strength of one letter?

I admitted the possibility (or should it be probability?) of my plays not being of sufficient merit to reach production. My grouse was that Catholic societies-1 mean, of course, the ones I have tried to approach —simply absorb scripts and that's the end. I only hope I have not been adding to the mortality returns. A week or two ago I also sat listening to " Beachcomber " counselling Catholic writers to take the offensive. I got a bigger grin out of the word " aggressive." Can anyone tell me how a Catholic playwright can become aggressive, in a strictly literary sense, of course?
