Japanese Catholics have started a movement to ask the Vatican to canonise Ukon Takayama, a 16thcentury Japanese feudal lord who became a Christian martyr.
A letter was recently discovered in the Vatican written by Pope Sixtus V in 1590, urging Takayama to remain strong in his Christian faith.
