Sir Hartley won't talk

By a Sta.° Reporter Standing before a large crucifix in Lowe House School, St. Helens, on Thursday night last week, Sir Hartley Shawcross conducted a political meeting in support of his candidature as Labour member for the town and refused to commit himself on the schools question.

Earlier in the day he met a deputation representative of the Catholic parishes and discussed the schools issue. He is understood to have declined to answer the three questions set out in the statement by the Hierarchy. He did not, he said want the question to be an issue at this election.
