Florence & the Machine: Lungs

ISLAND, £8.99

Described as “soul-inspired indie”, Lungs is full of Gothic imagery and fairytales with the dark bits left in – more Brothers Grimm than Disney. Frantic harmonies are layered with harps and harsh percussion, songs such as “Cosmic Love” and “Hurricane Drunk” having a distinctly epic quality to them. Florence’s voice is a paradox: all the force of KT Tunstall’s vocals combined with the whimsical purity of Regina Spektor and Björk.
