PALACE THEATRE, MANCHESTER, FROM JULY 10

Operatic pop singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has turned his hand to writing a real opera, a genre that has greatly influenced his work. With award-winning director Daniel Kramer and acclaimed soprano Janis Kelly playing the lead role, this production promises much. Set in Paris on Bastille Day, 1970, it tells the story of Régine Saint Laurent, a fading opera singer preparing for her return to the stage and battling the emotional demons that destroyed her career in the first place.
