THE ACCOUNTS for the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle for 1982 have just been published by Bishop Hugh Lindsay and show that the diocese has easily absorbed the inroads made upon its funds by its contribution to the cost of the visit of the Pope last year.

The expenditure of the diocese upon the visit was £401,685, which was more than covered by the £402,996 which was raised in the parishes.

The greater part of the cost of the diocesan central administration is met by the income which is received on invested funds, and in order to ensure that the diocese does not "share in any profits which depend on injustices" the entire investment portfolio is listed.
