NOTTINGHAM DIOCESE HAS 41 CLERICAL STUDENTS

In a Pastoral Letter entitled " Our Future Priests," read in the churches and chapels of Nottingham Diocese on Sunday, May 5, Mgr. J. F. McNulty, Bishop of Nottingham, said: " Though there were more subscribers last year, the total received from all sources was less than in 1938 by £401. During the latter year £500 was received in five donations. whereas in 1939 there were no individual items of f50 or niore. • " We are happy to say that the supply of suitable candidates for the sacred priesthood continues, and at present we have 41 young men pursuing their studies in our various universities and seminaries. . . . It should be put on record that the Rev. William Purdy, who gained first-class honours in history at Cambridge University last year, is now on the teaching staff of St. Edmund's College, Ware. . . .

"In our previous letter concerning the fund for the education of our future priests we put on record our grateful appreciation of the project undertaken by the Knights of St. Columba to found a bursa (value £2,000) for the education of a priest for the diocese. We again thank the Order for their splendid example of Catholic Action, which has recently received a special benediction from His Holiness Pope Pius XII" The letter gives the annual report and list of subscriptions and donations to the fund for the education of future priests.
