SIR,-May I trespass on the restricted space of the CATHOLIC HERALD to bring to the notice of your readers a pressing need which provides an opening for an excellent form of war service for those at home?
Letters received here from chaplains at the front reveal that there is an urgent demand among the troops in France for suitable articles of piety. Sacred Heart badges, medals, strong rosaries, C.T.S. (2d.) Prayer Books and C.T.S. lid,) Hymnals are mentioned in particular. One chaplain writes: ' My own parish is sending me a supply, but not nearly enough for requirements, which are numbered not in hundreds but in thousands. . . ."
His Grace the Archbishop of Liverpool has asked me to undertake the work of collecting and dispatching such articles, and has himself generously opened a subscription list with a personal donation of 15. There are many appeals at the present time, but I feel that this one needs no stressing. May I merely ask your readers to emulate the example of His Grace as far as their means permit? Donations in cash or gifts of the kind mentioned, from individuals or societies, will be gratefully acknowledged and speedily devoted to the above-stated purpose by the undersigned.
CYRIL TAYLOR (Rev.) Archbishop's House, Li verpool.
