Euthanasia probe set up

The London based Linacre centre has set up a working party on the ethics of health care and its first task will be to study trends towards euthanasia in the context or modern health care practice.

The working party is headed by Fr John Mahoney Si Principal of Heythrop College and will examine present practice and thinking on the treatment of handicapped new born babies, the terminal care of the aged and those suffering from progressive diseases.

It will also examine the treatment of the mentally ill and physically handicapped and will take account of intensive care for the acutely ill. The study is expected to take about two years.
