installed on Tuesday at St John's Cathedral, Salford, at a Mass celebrated by his predecessor Archbishop Patrick Kelly.

In his homily, Bishop Brain, a rugby player and supporter of Coventry FC, looked forward to being part of the Lancashire Catholic tradition. He recalled Our Lady's answer to the Angel. "Let it be so," he said. "In our own hearts, let all of us say Fiat."

The occasion, attended by a congregation of 1,300, was the first official engagement of the newly arrived Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Fuente.
