From Miss Philippa Toomey
Sir, I was taken aback by Fiorella Sultana de Maria's inference (Personal View, Oct. 3) that needlework was an unsuitable occupation for a modern woman. On the contrary, it is a creative art, no longer confined to darning socks. I recommend her (and everyone else) to seek out the huge and beautiful exhibitions of patchwork and quilting which take place all over the coun
try.
Knitting also gives one something serious to think about while watching the television.
Yours faithfully, PHILIPPA TOOMEY London NI
