ZOG-APPONYI WEDDING THE CONDITIONS

Papal Dispensation may be given to Countess Geraldine Apponyi permitting her marriage to the Moslem King Zog of Albania if both parties sign a solemn agreement that : there will be a Catholic wedding; Counte4s Apponyi will never give up her religion: the children shall be brought up as Catholics.

Couniess Apponyi's petition for a Dispensation is being considered by the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office in Rome. The Pope is Prefect and the case is examined by a council of eight Cardinals before it is referred to him.

A " Progressive " Moslem Whether King Zog will accept the conditions is doubtful. He is a "progressive" Moslem, and has done much to Westernise " his people.

To accede to the Vatican demands might he considered a gesture of civilisation and enlightened tolerance and as such King Zug may like to do so. But Moslem influence in Albania is thought to be stronger than that of the Catholics, and the Church's conditions are unlikely to be accepted by the people.
