Inquiry urged on Chile kidnappers

The Vicariate of Solidarity, a Chilean Catholic agency offering legal aid to political prisoners and aid for the poor, has filed a brief with the Chilean Supreme Court demanding an imkstigation into the fate of 435 people who, it claims, were "detained or kidnapped" in the closing months of last year.

The Vicariate, which was set up by Cardinal Raul Silva Henrique of Santiago, claims that it has unassailable evidence of arrest or kidnapping by government security police. Similar briefs entered earlier before the Supreme Court by the Vicariate of Solidarity have been rejected,
