High Honour for Mr. L. A. Toke

The Pope has appointed Mr. Leslie A. Toke, of Bucksford, Great Chart, Ashford, Kent, a Knight Commander of the Order

of St. Gregory. The Brief is being prepared.

Mr. Toke has rendered conspicuous services to the Diocese of Southwark, the Catholic Social Guild, the Catenian Association and the Knights of St. Columba. He represents Catholic Schools on the Kent Education Committee.

He was one of the group who, with Fr. Charles Plater, founded the Catholic Social Guild at a meeting in Manchester in 1909 during an annual conference of the Catholic Truth Society. He was one of the earliest authors and teachers of the Guild. He is a regular member of the Guild's annual Summer School. and a member of the Guild's Executive Committee. He has been Chairman of that Committee since 1928, retiring from office last summer.

It is rumoured that Count John McCormack may shortly be made a Papal Duke.
