The Daughters of the Cross, whose St. Michael's Hospital at Hayle is the only independent hospital left in Cornwall (and Devon), are to begin building a modern operating theatre block next spring. This is estimated to cost £34,000; the hospital has £9,000 in hand from voluntary donations, and the balance of £25,000 will be borrowed.
