Children Give Thanks: A Guide to the New Eucharistic Prayers for Children by Edward Matthews. (Collins 70p).
Fr Matthews' book is a short. simple, practical guide for the priest or teacher who. faced with yet more Eucharistic Prayers asks: "Are they really necessary, and if so, for what age of child, and what are the practical considerations involved in using them?"
In the general introduction Fr Matthews outlines in a direct and simple way what is meant by a
Lucharistic Prayer. lie does this by examining the constituent parts of a Eucharistic Prayer one by one. (And in my experience RE teachers prefer such instructions to presume that they do not fully understand. to ensure clear and sound instruction on basic points.)
The texts of the three new prayers are included prefaced by brief introductions which outline the special features of each prayer. giving suggestions regarding age group and possible variations.
As a teacher 1 feel that this hook is a "must" for all (parents included) who are involved in leading children towards an appreciation of and involvement in the Eucharist
