While it is a Catholic school, Ratcliffe welcomes children from other denominations.
In the Senior School (1!to 18-year-olds) a broad and balanced curriculum is offered, with most students taking nine or 10 GCSEs, while also being encouraged to participate fully in extracurricular activities. In the Sixth Form, students study three or four A-level courses. from a list of 22 subjects available. The emphasis in the Sixth Form is on establishing a strong work ethic and an independent approach to learning in preparation for university. A state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre opened in January 2007 and is proving an outstanding resource, offering sixth formers the combination of an extensively resourced private study area with full IT availability, together with a social area that provides an informal, relaxed setting for breaks and lunchtime as well as extra-curricular activities. In the Junior Department (fiveto 11year-olds), as well as with the core subjects, children also learn French and subjects like PE, Music, History and Geography are empha sised: younger students use the Senior School specialist facilities for 1CT, Drama, Music and Sport. The Nursery School (three to five year-olds) is situated in a purpose-built secure building with excellent facilities. There is a vibrant Art and Design department, while the Music department offers students the chance to learn various instruments and has a number of musical ensembles, bands and choirs to suit every level of ability and taste. Drama is a popular subject and most students are involved in productions each year. The Media Studies depahment is one of the best in the country with modem camera and editing equipment. The Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme both flourish and are supplemented by a wide range of other extra-curricular activities. Ratcliffe College has easy, congestion-free access on the A46, seven miles north of Leicester, with school buses from Leicester. Loughborough and Nottingham.
