Storrington's shrine to be blessed
THE new Shrine of Our Lady of England erected at the Prernonstratensians' (White Canons) Priory at Storrington, in Sussex, will be blessed by Bishop Cowderoy in September.
The Bishop made the announcement this.week during his sermon at the abbatial blessing of Fr. Felim Colwell as Abbot of Holy Trinity Abbey, at Kilnacrott, in Ireland.
Until recently Fr. Colwell was Prior of Storrington, where, said the Bishop, "he found a priory desolate, deserted and almost in ruins, after occupation by the military during the war years.
"To the good fathers . who had valiantly held on, living in a near-by house during those difficult times, Felim Colwell brought comfort and a new inspiration. "Under his guidance all signs of decay and deterioration vanished and a veritable paradise has replaced a wilderness.
"It is due to his apostolic zeal that a community of nuns has also come to reside in Storrington and a Catholic school has been opened there."
