LAY SECRETARIAT FOR THE MISSIONS IS ERECTED

The establishment in Paris of an international Secretariat for lay missionary activity, was decided on at a Study Week in Paris attended by several societies from Belgium, Holland and France interested in the missions.

Cardinal Lienart, Bishop of Lille, who last year visited the missions in the Cameroons, West Africa, accepted the presidency of the new secretariat. The new director is a physician who has been active in West Africa: Doctor Aujoulat, member of the French Parliament.

The new secretariat aims at coordinating the efforts of lay groups in various countries devoted to the aid of missionaries.

It aims, moreover, at establishing closer ties between European Catholic students and students from overseas studying in European universities. Up to now the latter have been enrolled mostly by Marxist organisations. The international secretariat is resolved to awaken in European Christians a sense of responsibility toward these students.
