Father Pat and his jubilant jubilee

MRS EVELYN AYKROYD, who taught at the Convent of the Sacred Hearts, Epsom, until 1979, and who is now living in Cheltenham, tells me that the parish priest of the Sacred Hearts Church, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, Fr Pat O'Donovan pictured here with Bishop Mervyn Alexander of Clifton, and his father and two brothers, recently celebrated his Silver Jubilee in that church.

The bishop and 18 fellow priests concelebrated Mass on this joyous occasion which was attended by his parents and six brothers and sisters from Ireland and by local parishioners and visitors from the various parishes in which he served.

Fr Pat has been parish priest

of the Sacred Hearts Church since 1979, and before that he served in Swindon, Stroud and Bristol. Among the many tributes received by Fr Pat he treasured highly the cards prepared by the little children of St Gregory's Primary School.

By coincidence Fr Pat O'Donovan's church is the Church of the Sacred Hearts (plural), and Mrs Evelyn Aykroyd was a much loved and respected teacher of English at the Convent of the Sacred Hearts (plural) in Epsom. The temptation of printers and readers is to correct the title to Sacred Heart (singular) whereas the plural form refers, of course, to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
