John Paul I on sainthood path
FORMAL moves to canonise Pope John Paul I have begun, Italian news agency AGI reported this week.
The agency said Bishop Vincenzo Savio of Belluno had asked a priest to put the case for the canonisation of the Pope who reigned for only 33 days. Don Pasquale Liberatore, a Roman priest, will act as postulator for the cause.
Albino Luciani, the cardinal archbishop of Venice, was elected Pope in August 1978. He chose the name John Paul in memory of his two predecessors. He died on September 29, 1978.
