In a recent edition of the B.B.C. review of weekly publications, broadcast each Saturday as the "Weekly World," Miss Honor Balfour of TIME magazine said: "I found the best weeklies for the sort of wide coverage and comment I was seeking were THE TABLET and THE ECONOMIST. THE TABLET is always among my favourite weekly reading. It has a neat way of picking on key issues and treating them with considerable thought in an unpretentious but pertinent manner. And it manages to get passion into those pieces about which it feels passion."

Almost a third of the programme was devoted to quotations from THE TABLET and concluded:

"I have quoted at length from this piece because I think it is the way in which a weekly can and should raise its voice above the din of day by day drama. Indeed, I have high marks for THE TABLET on other scores."
