The Japanese News Agency, quoted by Reuter, states that the following reply had been handed by Mgr. Pogrielmo Pine Apostolic Delegate in the Philippines, to Jose Laurel, the Japanese-sponsored president of the islands. its non-committal character may be noted : " His Eminence Cardinal Luigi Maglione, Secretary of State to His Holiness, through the Apostolic Delegate to Japan, has given me instructions to assure your Excellency that the Vatican has received your generous telegram announcing your induction as president of the Philippines and to transmit to your Excellency most sincere thanks for your courtesy."
