Oxford Oratory launches appeal to restore church
OXFORD'S Oratorians have launched a £5 million fundraising appeal to restore their church.
The Fathers of the Oxford Oratory hope to raise money to restore the marble, stonework and stencilling of their Victorian church. They want to add a new chapel, a garden and a small library. The Jesuits established St AJoysius, the parish church for most of the University of Oxford, in the 1870s. In the 1980s it was taken over by the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The Birmingham Oratory sent two priests to serve it in 1990 and in 1993, the Oxford Oratory was established as an independent congregation.
The appeal, Reaffirmation and Renewal. hopes to be able to support the choir and music group to bring more people into its Masses.
