A warning to

Catholic magistrates will face a serious challenge when next Friday the Magistrates' Association, at its annual meeting in the London Guildhall, considers a proposal for a statutory amendment legalising abortion under certain conditions.

It is proposed that an abortion should he justified if performed in what is called " good faith for the purpose of preserving the life of the mother.'

Further, it is proposed that a doctor should be justified, with the concurring opinion of another doctor, in performing an abortion to prevent •'serious injury to the mother in body or health.

Moreover, the resolution continues, he should also be justified, again with a concurring opinion, in performing an abortion in the belief that there is " grave risk of the child being born grossly deformed or lacking normal physical or mental faculties or incapable of normal physical or mental development"
