The Consecration of the Church of St. Philip Neri, Arundel, which Bishop Cowderoy of Southwark was to have carried out on Wednesday, has been postponed till next year. The church, which was the gift of the late Duke of Norfolk, has not been consecrated owing to the absence of a permanent high altar. The quarrying of the altar stone took several months owing to the difficulty of finding a suitable stone of the requisite measurements. Last Wednesday the altar stone, which weighed 38 cwt., crashed while being levered into position, The quarrying of a new stone will he necessary and the Consecration has been postponed till next year.
