First Communion —usual way

WHAT is it that Fr. Kelly has done? One can only summarise it here, but those interested should get hold of a copy of Liturgy or write to Fr. Kelly. It is all about the First Holy Communion Day in the parish. Here is his description of normal procedure: "A group of children worked up to a very nervous state, conscious that they have arrived at a very important event in their lives, very anxious about doing things correctly, terribly distracted by new clothes and creaky boots, wishing that they had their father and mother near them, but finding themselves marshalled about like orphans by a harassed-looking teacher, who seems very conscious of her own rig-oht. The parents, if encouraged to be present at all, are packed away at the back of the church; have probably not been urged to receive Holy Communion themselves; some of them have not been to Holy Communion since they were married."
