A LIBRARY OF THE University of Southampton has been renamed in memory of Catholic headmaster Philip Lawrence, murdered in London last December.
The Philip Lawrence Library at La Sainte Union College opens on 26 March and is the result of two years of expansion which doubled the floor space of the original 1904 building.
Dr Anand Chitnis, Principal of of the College, said: "We wish to name the Library after Philip Lawrence because he represents the highest ideals and values of Catholic education. It is those ideals and values that have so impressed the nation since his death.
"By naming the Library after Philip Lawrence, we hope that we will be able to play a small part in ensuring that subsequent generations remember what he stood for."
