NO SWEETS BEFORE COMMUNION

nOES TAKING A SWEET,

WHICH IS DISSOLVED IN THE mourn AND SWALLOWED AS A LIQUID, VIOLATE THE EUCHARISTIC FAST?

It does. Food should be liquid before entering the mouth. It is stated by Cardinal Ottaviani, ProSecretary of the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office, replying to recent questions.

He replies to other doubts as follows:— EVENING COMMUNION OUTSIDE MASS: The laity cornmunicate at an Evening Mass, immediately before, and immediately after.

" The spirit of the concessions granted tin regard to Evening Mass)," says the Cardinal, tends to favour attendance of the faithful at Holy Mass, and this purpose would be defeated if Holy Communion were distributed at any hour and upon request."
