The St Augustine's controversy

From the Chair of Governors, St Augustine's School, Oxford

Sir, I write on behalf of the Roman Catholic Foundation Governors of St Augustine's Joint Upper School in Oxford to thank The Catholic Herald for the first even-handed report and excellent editorial (June 11) concerning Archbishop Nichols' commitment to address the pastoral needs of his diocese in South Oxfordshire and the proposals for a new Catholic Secondary School.

Letters in support for the statement of Archbishop Nichols given on May 9th and the Catholic proposals have been sent to other papers. Regrettably, only the controversial oppoosition has so far been publicised with much emphasis on the emotive and too little on facts.

Our prayers of supplication will now change to include one of thanksgiving.

Yours faithfully, MAUREEN HASTINGS, Begbroke OX5 1RX
