Theology of celibacy

From Mr Gerard Hanratty

Sit; Bishop Guazzelli opines that "there's no theological argument' for priestly celibacy."

His Lordship may be mistaken. At the moment of consecration the priest stands at the altar in the person of Christ. It is therefore appropriate that he should also share Christ's celibate state. Furthermore, Jesus did tell his Apostles to leave all and follow him. Surely one can presuppose that words uttered by Our Lord do have theological significance.

Yours faithfully, GERARD HANRATTY London. SW 10 9DR
