Well taught, but all for naught?

From Mr Peter Johnson

Sir, I shall be grateful if you will kindly allow me to correct the final sentence of my letter concerning the Bishops consultation on RE in Catholic Schools which you published on 28th April. Whereas a missing punchline is a disaster, a misquoted one is a catastrophe. What I wrote was "well taught but not necessarily caught." However, further reflection on the revised aims for RE in Catholic schools in the light of the continuing haemorrhage of young people from the Church prompts me to think that I should have concluded "Well taught — but all for naught.

Yours faithfully, PETER JOHNSON West Mailing, Kent.
