Stone will be laid tomorrow

rHE foundation stone of this new church of St. Patrick at Newport, Mon., will be laid by Archbishop Murphy of Cardiff tomorrow, St. Patrick's Day. Donations for the building have come in from all parts of Great Britain and Ireland, also from America and New Zealand. as a result of appeals advertised in the Catholic Press. The total cost of the new church will be over £70,000.

The high altar is being designed so that at a later date Mass could be said facing the people. There

will be three galleries. The choir gallery will overlook the sanctuary. Total seating accommodation will be for 350.

A temporary church which has served the parish since 1926 has been taken down now, and Mass will be celebrated in the local primary school until the new church is completed-probably in June, next year.

Says Fr. George Richardson, " The most reliable historians place St. Patrick's birthplace in this area, and that gives a special significance to our undertaking."
