Former England cricketer The Rt Rev David Sheppard, Anglican Suffragan Bishop of Woolwich, has been appointed Bishop of Liverpool to succeed Bishop Blanch, appointed Archbishop of York. At 45, he will be the youngest diocesan bishop in the Church of England.

Writer of two books on the Church in an urban society, he has often publicly demonstrated his commitment to social justice in every field.
