ARCHBISHOP HELDER CAMARA of Olinda and Recife, Brazil, and Alexander Dubcek, the ousted Czechoslovak reformist leader, are favourites to win the VersiliaViareggio International Prize, an award for civic and literary figures.

The jury for the -prize, an offshoot of the Viareggio Literary Prize, said this week that the two men led a list of candidates for the award, the winner of which will be announced tomorrow.

Other candidates include Henry Miller. the American author and playwright, and Roger Garaudy, the French Marxist philosopher. who revolted against the Communist party.

Archbishop Camara is one of the most outspoken Church liberals in Latin America, and a forceful advocate for the cause of the poor.
