TWO DUTCH BISHOPS RETIRE

From our Netherlands correspondent TDutch bishops who between them are estimated to have confirmed at least 750,000 children and adults have simultaneously announced their intenlion of retiring. They are 85-yearold Bishop Jan Pieter Huibers of Haarlem and 71-year-old Bishop Willem Mutsaerts of 's-Hertogenbosch.

For the last time Bishop Huibers ordained 18 priests and 14 sub-deacons for his diocese in his cathedral at the week-end. Up to his old age Bishop Huibers has always been full of new initiatives and has greatly stimulated the factory apostolate in the Netherlands.

Bishop Hutsacrts has achieved the enormous task of rebuilding the numerous churches destroyed in his diocese during the war.

Bishop Huibers is to be succeeded by his coadjutor, 47-yearold Bishop Jan van Dodewaard, as is Bishop Mutsaerts, who will be succeeded by 52-year-old Bishop Willem Bckkers.
