New prefecture Equator

A new Prefecture Apostolic of the Galapagos Islands -also known as the Archipelago of Columbus—has been created by the Holy See. The islands straddle the Equator some 500 miles west of Ecuador.

Franciscan Fathers will have charge of it. Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos during his South American travels and made important studies there in natural science.
