The Italian Chamber of Deputies by 254 votes to 132 has withdrawn parliamentary immunity from a Communist member, Laura Diaz, so that she shall appear in court to answer a charge of having publicly insulted the Pope.
She is reported to have said that the Holy Father's hands were " dripping with the blood" of children who lost their lives during the war.
