The Pope gives his skullcap to a layman

AN 80-year-old member of

St. Vincent de Paul Society of New York, Mr. George Gillespie, took a white zuchetto (skullcap) to the Vatican when Cardinal Spellman presented some 300 pilgrims to the Holy Father.

He remembered that the Pope. when he made New York's Archbishop a Cardinal, gave him his own Red Hat, and thought that he too might be able to bring home a Papal souvenir.

When the Holy Father reached him. Mr. Gillespie asked him to bless the skullcap.

The Pope v.,ent further. " You take mine," he said to Mr. Gillespie, " and I'll take yours."

So the old S.V.P. member goes home with an even better prin.
