Cardinal Griffin went to St. Joseph's College, Trent Vale, last week to present awards on the prizegiving day of the school's comingof-age year.
More than 1.000 parents and old boys joined the present pupils in Victoria Hall, Hanley, for the occasion.
The Cardinal said that he had always had a special interest in St. Joseph's College. "In fact," he said, "I can claim to have had an interest in the college even before it started 21 years ago, for I was with Archbishop Williams when he crossed to Ireland to invite the Irish Christian Brothers to come over and found this college."
