Educated In Ldinhurah, he fcsught with the 'inset Field Artillery in world War I and was awarded the Military Cross. Hi later studied medicine at Edinburgh Cniscrsity and alter graduation became a Fellow of the Royal College of PhYsiclans in Edinburgh. At 33 he entered the Jesuits in 1929 and was ordained hi 1936. He first served on the staff of Sr. Francis Xavier, Lherponi, and was Inter chaplain to both Liserpooi and

Edinburgh Unisersities. He then worked at Farm Street. London. Appointed to

Northern Scotland he opened the missions to Shetland. Orkney. and Stornoway, and next went to the .newty formed novitiate at Juniper Green.
