THE foundation stone of the new chapel at St. Michael's College, Underley Hall, a memorial to the late Bishop Flynn, will be laid on Sunday by Bishop Foley of Lancaster. Mass will be celebrated in the open air at 3 p.m. An architect's model of the chapel is shown above.
The junior seminary, now established at the College, was originally at Thistleton Lodge, near Kirkham, but because of the large number of students the lodge became too small. Shortly before he died Bishop Flynn bought Underley Hall for the seminary.
The chapel, costing some £50,000, will be completed by June next year. Design is by the Preston firm of Building Design Partnership. William White, the partner in charge, is himself a former pupil of Preston Catholic College. The assistant architect, Mr. L. John Sheridan, is also a Catholic.
