A NEW Welsh bishop to succeed Bishop Langton Fox of Menevia was appointed this week. Fr Aloysius Ward, 51, a Capuchin Franciscan who helped in his family metal merchants when a boy in Wrexham comes to the diocese with some knowledge of Welsh.
Fr Ward has been named Bishop coadjutor to Bishop Fox with right of succession. Bishop Fox suffered a stroke 13 months ago and though he can now fulfill
some duties, is still. handicapped.
Fr Ward went to Prior Park College, Bath and joined the Franciscans at Pantasaph, Clwyd. He was ordained in 1953 and worked for seven years in travelling parishes.
In 1960 he went to a parish in Peckham, London and was elected Privincial in 1969. The next year he moved to Rome as an advisor to the Father General with special responsibility for English speaking Capuchins.
