REDS REPORT HUNGARIAN AGREEMENT

Reports from Communist sources in Bucharest claim that a preliminary agreement has been reached between the Hungarian hierarchy and the Communist Government which will serve as the basis for further negotiations between the two groups.

Two archbishops, a bishop and the leaders of three religious orders are reported to have acted as spokesmen for the Church.

The reports said that the Church hierarchy is still refusing to agree to a Government demand that all Catholic priests take an oath of loyalty to the Hungarian People's Republic. The reports themselves may, of course, be hut one more means of bringing pressure to hear upon them to secure this end.
