From Mrs Josephine Way:
Sir, I am mystified by Joanna Bogle's reproaches (CH, Aug 18) and her assumption that I condone the actions of those who "dump" their spouses and keep their children from them.
It is true that some people divorce for frivolous reasons. Others do so to resolve an impossible situation. Either way this causes suffering to all concerned.
This suffering is compounded by the practice of the Church, which, despite emollient words about "still belonging", in fact stigmatises all those who remarry or marry a divorced person.
Yours faithfully, JOSEPHINE WAY Skelly, Swansea
