Month of May Prayers

RomE

Pope Pius XIIin a circular letter to the Catholic Bishops of the world on the intentions for May devotions to-day appealed to all Christians and especially children to pray for a just peace.

His letter is not an encyclical. The letter is issued this year by the Popc himself because the office of the Cardinal Secretary of State who normally addresses it has been vacant since the death of Cardinal Maglione.

Quoting Psalm 85, verse 10, "Righteousness and peace have kissed each other," the Pope says, " If you do not love justice you will not have peace. They love each other and are so closely united that in operating iustice you will find peace.

" Pray to God that the minds and hearts of men may be enlightened and renewed by the teachings of the Christian doCtrine from which can come private and public salvation in order that the devastating struggle among the peoples and continents may cease raging, and citizens of all classes, linked by love, may hasten to rebuild the human edifice out of the immense ruins, under the banner of justice and charity.

" We must also pray the Redeemer and His Blessed Mother that the peace terminating this disastrous and bloody war may be true and sincere."
