EVERY Catholic in the Brentwood diocese will be asked this weekend to give some practical support to the campaign against •abortion. The call, from Bishop Thomas McMahon. refers to the estimated 1.5 million abortions carried out since the 1967 Act and says that "the vast majority of these children were killed because they were either inconvenient or unwanted.
"I ask that all members of the Church give urgent consideration to What they can do in the struggle for the protection of the unborn. Everyone can do something: for instance they can make their views known to their MPs who make the law and it is they who can amend or repeal it. Money is also needed, for the campaign to save life is costly," he says.
He encourages church members to offer help to the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, which since it is made up of members of all faiths "would be a true example of the ecumenical spirit based on love of Our Lord."
