Boston priest suspended for 'divisive ministry'

AN AMERICAN priest in the Boston archdiocese who has opened three unauthorised chapels for the celebration of the Tridentine Mass, has • been suspended.

Fr Joirh Keane wits told by Cardinal Humberto Medeiros that the reason for the action was his "uneanonical and divisive" ministry'. The Cardinal notFcl particularly that Fr Keane hhti celebrated "canonically invalid" marriages.

"The purpose of this suspension is ont■ to heal. to be an instrument ol love by which a priest mat be drawn to see the seriousness of his errors and to return to the practice of the Catholic priestly ministry." the Cardinal said.

Fr Keeane said the suspension "doesn't change anything".

In Paris the failure or the Abbe Coache to arrive forced traditionalists to abandon a much-publicised Latin Mass planned to take place in the square outside Notre Dame on Sunday.

About 150 worshippers waited around for two hours before dispersing. I he priest had apparently been persuaded not to attend by the police. who had harmed the celebration.
