Last week Mgr. J. McCormack, Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, blessed and opened the new church of St Mary, at Whickham, near Gateshead, a parish which was founded only in 1942.
The new building was originally a stable and a byre, but both buildings have been combined. The byre was demolished and the stones used for enlarging the main building.
Parishioners have lent their assistance in clearing the area, where they have erected a Lourdes grotto.
